EXCLUSIVE SKI CHALETS

Luxury Ski Stats 2013

Last week we attended the annual Luxury Ski Stats held in Central London. It’s always interesting to get an overview of the market from the perspectives of operators, agents and clients alike so it was certainly a worthwhile event and also hugely enjoyable, the free-flowing Perrier Jouet and mouth-watering canapés helping a great deal in this respect.

The peak time to book a holiday was between September to December with 40% of all luxury chalet bookings taking place during this period. It was interesting to see 20% of bookings pre-May though, so plenty of the most desirable chalets are getting booked up well in advance. The average size of a group is ten people with 91% of clients flying and 9% made up of drivers and trains. BA and Swiss are the two most popular airlines for luxury clients.

So what is the most popular resort for high-end clients? In France, Courchevel 1850 unsurprisingly takes the spoils here with a 30% market share. Hot on their heels are Val d’Isere and Meribel with 23% and 22% respectively. In Switzerland, it’s a battle between Verbier and Zermatt with Verbier coming out on top with a 37% share compared to Zermatt’s 32%. Zermatt is growing in popularity by the year though so we predict a shift over the next couple of years.
