Beautiful Ski Chalets where Savoyard Charm and Luxury Living Combine

When you cast your gaze across the upper echelons of the luxury ski chalet market today, one thing seems to stand out above all else; the sheer variety of properties available. From traditional, Savoyard chocolate-box barn-conversions to sleek, contemporary new-builds of steel and glass, skiers at the top-end of the accommodation market have no shortage of impressive luxury chalets to choose from.

In this article, the focus is on traditional chalets – luxury properties with an Alpine character all their own, formed over decades of snowy winters and warm summers. In properties such as these, guests can relax in sumptuous surroundings and enjoy the latest luxury facilities – never compromising on the character and atmosphere of their home in the mountains.

Le Chardon, Val d’Isere

Val d’Isere’s chalet le Chardon takes pride of place in one of the resort’s most highly-coveted locations; a ski in/ski out position on the side of the Solaise mountain. Guests enjoy spectacular views out along the Manchet Valley and Vanoise National Park, with plenty of natural light streaming in through the large picture windows.

The property is constructed throughout in Alpine timber and stone to give a traditional and authentic feel. With full-length balconies running the breadth of the frontage, guests have no shortage of space in which to soak up the views. Inside, the timber and stone theme continues, lending Le Chardon a wonderfully homely atmosphere.

Chalet Genepi, Meribel

Chalet Genepi is beautifully situated in the much sought-after Belevedere quarter of Meribel. The Georges Mauduit piste runs past the chalet’s front door and the lifts and gondolas of la Chaudanne are wonderfully close by making access easy throughout.

The chalet’s imposing exterior is entirely timber-clad, with balconies across all three levels and attractive use of local stone to complete the picture. Like le Chardon in Val d’Isere, the authentic timber-and-stone construction continues inside, complemented by a selection of luxury fixtures and fittings including sumptuous sofas, grand dining area and spacious bedrooms.

Special features available to guests in the luxury chalet Genepi include outdoor hot tub with spectacular valley views, sauna, massage room, gym and health suite plus games room. For guests keen to keep abreast of current affairs, there’s a private study and office space available.

The 8 bedrooms can all be made up as twins or doubles - lending groups a good deal of flexibility – and they all boast private jacuzzi baths and cable television.

Chalet Makini, Verbier

The Makini is a 5* chalet set beautifully within the soaring peaks and rolling valleys of Verbier, in the Swiss Alps. Sitting in a ski in/out location within the Hameau development, the property enjoys easy access to the Rouge ski lift and on into the entire 4 Valleys domain. After long days out on the slopes, guests can ski back to the chalet from the Savoleyres side of the valley with ease.

Beautifully designed and built with plenty of open stone and timber features, the Makini boasts double-height ceiling, spacious feel and stunning valley views. Sleek and contemporary yet with a comfortable, homely feel, the property is ideal for visitors to Verbier looking for something a little special on the accommodation front.

Facilities include hot tub, massage room, gym and health suite, sauna, open fireplace and wine cellar, where high quality wines lie in wait to complement guests’ evening meals to perfection.

Chalet 1597, Lech

The chalet 1597 sits in the Stubenbach area of Lech and, when conditions allow, guests can ski within reach of the property via a marked off-piste run from the Rufikoft slopes. Voted Austria’s best chalet by the World Ski Awards in 2014, the 1597 is truly special.

Originally constructed in 1597 – hence the name – the chalet has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated to retain a great deal of its original character and charm. Timber walls and flooring are complemented by sleek, marble surfaces and traditional stone construction, all perfectly balanced out by contemporary fixtures and fittings.

Guests in the chalet can return from the slopes to a wonderful range of facilities, including spa and sauna, private cinema room and in-house bar. Evenings in with friends and family are wonderfully relaxing, as the logs pop and crackle in the open fireplace.
